Susan asked me about what should be in a car emergency kit

it all depends on how much you can spend, and where you want to stop before it gets out of hand

a AAA membership prevents most problems
or, instead get
jumper cables,
1 gallon fuel can
siphon pump, hose to work with it
reflective triangle,
tow strap,
flashlight, glowsticks, emergency flashers
flares,
first aid kit,
leatherman or Gerber multiplier
latex gloves,
coveralls,
handwipes,
and a rag.

go even a little prepper / off the beaten path and consider:
A hand crank radio to listen to while you wait for a ride,
solar panel for recharging cell phones
100 dollars,
a prepaid credit card,
twinkies and YooHoo are supposed to last forever
beef jerky you like to eat
snake bite kit
insulin and needle
stitching kit
cold packs
collapsible road cones
zip ties
snow chains or traction multiplier. There are many devices, some use zipties
extra pair of pants, extra shirt, extra socks, extra shoes
bar of soap, washcloth,
roll of paper towels
a couple hundred feet of paracord
sun block
umbrella
blanket
teddy bear (you might try to help someone with frightened kids after a crash)
satellite phone / burner phone
collapsible crutches
a disposable lighter
a referees whistle
a life saving hammer
